Narcos: Mexico is an American crime drama series, aired on Netflix in November 2018. The parent series Narcos is based in Colombia. In contrast, this series is centered around the drug cartels of Mexico. Netflix ordered the second installment in December 2018, which premiered in February 2020.
Narcos: Mexico explores the war on drugs, it shows how Mexico, earlier just a cannabis-producing country with few dealers, turned into the den of a drug cartel. The show portrays how Felix Gallardo unifies the dealers and traffickers to build an empire. And then he tackles the fearsome Drug Enforcement Administration agent Kiki Camarena, who is given the assignment to catch the leader of the cartel.
Both the seasons have received rave reviews, and fans are eagerly waiting for a season three renewal.
Narcos: Mexico Season 3 Renewal Status
In the finale episode, Felix Gallardo was imprisoned for murdering Drug Enforcement Administration agent Kiki Camarena. With Gallardo, Don Neto, and Rafa also got imprisoned, making the Guadalajara cartel broken into three different groups Tijuana, Sinaloa, and Juarez Cartel.
So, with the show’s ending being suspenseful it is pretty evident that there may be a season three. And also Puerto Rican rapper Bunny, who is going to give a cameo in the third installment, conveyed sneakingly that the show has started shooting before the pandemic. Because of the corona, the shooting was stalled, and now nobody knows when everything will resume.
It is pretty clear that the show will be renewed for season three. But till this time none of the producers or Netflix has conveyed any information regarding the show’s renewal.
Narcos: Mexico Season 3 Release Date
The first season of the franchise premiered on Netflix in November 2018, and season two premiered in February 2020. So, you can pretty much estimate that installment three will not come before 2021. The filming for the second installment started in December 2018, which means it took almost eleven months for production.
So, considering the ongoing pandemic, the season three release can be anticipated to January 2022. With all the creative writing, new characters, editing, and dubbing for the show January 2022 seem the perfect release date.
And seeing all the losses that the film industry is receiving now, there are chances that it could get shelved. However, the chances of getting shelved are pretty minute. Till this time no comment has been received from the producers or Netflix about the release date. These all are just healthy guesswork.
Narcos: Mexico Season 3 Cast
The character of Kiki Camarena played by Micahel Pena died in the first installment. But insider information is that the character is going to return in season three. It might be possible that he was not dead but in a coma.
Diego Luna who plays the titular character Felix Gallardo may not return for the third installment. It’s because he is set to star in a new series with Disney+ which will clash with the shooting of the third installment.
The DEA agent Walt Breslin played by Scoot Mcnairy, who was assigned to the task after the death of Kiki Camarena, may make a comeback in season three. He is a fictional character introduced by the writers and could be rewritten according to the requirements.
As Rafa and Don Neto are imprisoned with Gallardo, their role may also be cut down in the installment three. But we all know that illegal business still operates from the jail of Mexico. So maybe in season 3, both of them will continue to operate their cartel from inside the jail itself.
Supporting cast like Fernanda Urrejola as Felix’s wife, and Alejandro Edda as Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman may come back to play their role in the next installment. (check: The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Season 2.)
